With all the crazy transphobia and book banning going on right now, I'm glad nobody's gone after The Marvelous Land of Oz to date. In this case, it may not be such a bad thing that a goodish portion of the general public isn't even aware that there are any Oz books after the first one. As kid who was unaware that trans people existed, I'm not sure if I initially thought of Tip turning out to be Ozma as anything more than a very cool plot twist, though I've probably always been, at the very least, fairly ambivalent regarding my gender, which may partially explain my continued interest in this topic. I mean, I've never devoted particularly serious thought to the idea that I might be trans myself, but then again, I guess I'll admit that if a witch came along and said I was actually a princess under a spell, I wouldn't complain. I'm not as active a member of the Oz fandom as I'd like to be, but even I've had to deal with one or two reactionary Oz fans who want to dictate to people how they can and can't interpret the characters.
